Why Do They Do That?
Answers to Common Questions About Cat
Behavior
"Face Rubbing"
Every time I sit down, my cat jumps in my lap and rubs her head
against my chin. Why does she do that?
The simple answer is: Because she loves you!
Dogs lick people to show affection. But cats usually
only lick to clean themselves. Occasionally your cat may lick
your hand or arm, and you can be sure that it’s enjoying a taste
of whatever you had for dinner. But the real way it shows
affection is by butting its head against yours.
A mother cat will show affection for her babies by
rubbing her face against her kitten’s. If a cat rubs its face
against yours, it’s showing you the ultimate in trust and
affection. In its eyes, you are its most beloved parent and
companion. There is no higher compliment a cat can give to its
devoted slave...you. |
