On July 29, 2009, the House of
Representatives reviewed H.R.
2811, which is the companion
Bill for Senate Bill S. 373.
The text of the Bill was
intended to make all pythons,
even small non-aggressive
pythons such as the popular Ball
Pythons, illegal throughout the
entire United States.
After listening to both sides
(and realizing for the first
time the huge economic impact
passing such a law would have on
the pet industry, and the United
States economy in general), the
House of Representatives agreed
to modify the wording, to
include only Burmese Pythons and
African Rock Pythons. The
modified Bill passed, and its
companion Senate Bill S. 373
will now be scheduled for review
in the United States Senate.
It is our hope that Senator
Nelson will stop exaggerating
the so-called danger of all
snakes (even small ones), based
on his own phobias, long enough
to realize how much damage his
Bill will cause to the United
States economy, to all python
owners, and to the entire pet
industry. |
